Excellent Richard. I have a bit of exhaust piping here but its only about 55 or 60mm, I think I need about 75mm.
I will hunt for some.

Rooky

Managed to pick up brake calipers from a Sunny.
It has been standing for about 10 years out in an open yard.
Took a lot of work to remove them.
Anyway I only needed to rebuild the left hand one.
So now I have 2 rebuilt calipers.
I fitted new discs and pads and put the calipers on. At this point I noticed that the right hand caliper that was from the NX was in fact a left hand one!
So the bleed nipple is on the bottom.
So the previous owners had not only fitted the wrong size caliper on one side but had fitted a left hand one on the right.

So after a bit of shouting I rebuilt the other sunny one.
Brakes now fitted and a quick bleed they are working great, no more locking up on the left hand side and no more pulling to the left.
I have a friend coming over tomorrow if the rain stays away and ill bleed all 4 corners again to make sure there is new fluid running through everything.

You fixed the problem that made it been sold?  :koffie:

Rooky

I did indeed.
Just bled the brakes one final time. New fluid through the whole system. Brakes working very well now.
Time to give the engine and gearbox some new oil.
Going to replace the valve covers gasket as well.

richardwbb

Sweet. Are there minor issues or (big) wishes on this Nx? I sense you will get some hours topless  :vork:

The brakes were the biggest issues.
Needs a good service and a good clean.
A couple of rust spots to sort out. 4 new tyres needed as well.
Need a stereo as well.
No stereo in this one at all.

(filmpje)

May I advice, please start with vac hose on fpr then vac on valve cover and take fsm by hand and lookup vacuum for fuel and replace that. Then where here it is up to you what to start with or leave it alone for now, measure ignition wires (fsm says what is allowed, does not mean what fsm allows isn't very well but it won't be bad either). If you can find a coil on it (I couldn't) check for corrosion (just on main lead ignition side, make a photo of it so I can learn, please). Make spark blue, strong, audible. Replace fuel filter if never done, NGK plugs adjusted to 1.1 mm, make sure no leaking exhaust (spoils lambda readout) and sand all masses, start with negative on battery. Look in to plus side red connector can be corroded. Mass points out of my head, at the headlights, and if those bolt go to break just leave it, at the kick panels driver and passenger side, trunk at jack. Might have forgot some. All masses are in fsm. Replace rotor, I recommend blue print since it is the only one that mimics Nissan original by insulating metal parts, have pics and replace cap for a also a blue print but this I just guessed myself by just one logical reason but having both rotor and cap same brand (tolerances). If willing to afford Nissan rotor and cap, if you expect to put 50k miles on it. I would replace iginitioncables if old but it it up to you. If things run sound (I mean ecu sees proper values) it will run very well now. If not suspect idling system. egr system. Adjust ignition timing with a strobo. Advance it up to 15 degrees (10 stock) you are at risk for detonation (you can't hear that) so to be safe, you may put it on 12 since fms says 10 degrees +/- 2. But if you are sure spark is good (no leaking, not bad) and vacuum is good to very good to airtite, 14 degrees. I never was able to check fuel pressure regulator for correctness thoug (requires pro tool) and yeah long story. This should get you better then Nissan said fuel economy. Good fuel economy also means fast and spirited engine.

Nissan Datascan, timing gun, for the rest no special tools required. For iginition cables I also recommend blue print since blue print does follow specs where others don't.
With this my  Ga16DE well over what Nissan says fuel economy. My car is 400lbs lighter but I corrected for this. Still well over. If this doesn't work out for you then Datascan will tell you state of oxygen sensor and maf. After that checked then some suspects can be dragging brakes or spoilers, alignment maybe.

Your Nx will be well powered to keep up with nowadays traffic and most sporty driving style people < 4500 rpm.

Here is bad ignition (it is a little harder to visualze this on a ga16de), not always blue, rays all over the place, ticks but not the tick you want to hear

Here is strong ignition

Now that is one very detailed post Richard, thank you.
I must pick up a strobe gun.
The leads have been replaced in this nx and look longer than on my other one.
I think I will buy new ones.

Rooky

Finally the brakes are working as they should.
Changed spark plugs, oil and filter and an end pipe to tidy up the exhaust.
Cleaned up the valve cover and fit a new gasket as well.

#24
Oo Nice valve cover
Oo Nicest exhaust tip I saw, this looks just like it should
Oo I see lifting eye in place, you can pull the engine, you have the required part. Very rare.

Thanks

I presumed the lifting eye was standard.
Good to know.
Need to more cleaning up in the engine bay, but the valve cover makes a big difference.

That pipe looks a lot neater.

I have water coming in and flooding my passenger floor.
Its like an indoor swimming pool.
I'm sitting in the car and it is lashing rain outside but can't see any leak at all!

Could it be coming in under the glove box somewhere?
My car is RHD so passenger is left side.

HarriePekel

Possible, but could also be your front windscreen having a rusthole, drain from T-top plugged, a leak inside your dash or a T-top itself leaking inside through the seals, is the seat wet to?

Rooky

The seat is bone dry.
I sat in the car for 40mins with the rain lashing and couldn't find any sign of a leak from door or t bar etc

HarriePekel

Then check underneath the black panels between the windscreen and the engine bay, might also be leaking through the fresh air intake for the cockpit  ;)
